The WSOP qualifiers are here!

The Cake players who qualified for WSOP events #54 (the last $1500 NLHE event) and the Big Dance ($10K NLHE final) are coming into town and have stopped by to get their registration materials.

We thought you’d like to meet a couple of them. This is “I_OWN_U_TODAY” (on the left) and his friend, Mike.

If it weren’t for Mike, then I_OWN_U_TODAY wouldn’t be playing in event #54 tomorrow. You see, Mike called IOUT and said, “Hey – Cake has a Gold Card satellite going right now – you just need a seven of clubs.” IOUT was ten minutes from home in his car, so he stepped on it and got home right before the rebuy/add-on period was over. He continues the story…

“I had a bunch of seven of clubs, so I just started shoving all-in every chance I got. Then one time I shoved with J3 and flopped a jack and doubled up. At that point I started playing sanely. I built it up to about 50K chips. There was a guy that kept shoving preflop, and I was keeping an eye on him. Well, I got aces [editor's note: we all know where this is going...] and I limped in. He jammed for 50K chips! Of course, I immediately called. He had AJs, nothing bad happened, and I had 100K.”

“There were two seats up for grabs, but by the time we got to the final table, I was the short stack. But the chip leader kept busting people left and right. Somehow, we got down to three of us. The short stack had 100K and jammed with K4 – the big stack woke up with 99 and busted him.”

This is IOUT’s first WSOP event. We expect first place in Event #54 to be over $500K and if IOUT wins it all, he’s going to have to take Mike out for a nice dinner.

Gunners1 is a major in the Royal Norwegian Air Force and carries himself like an air force major. That is, we don’t think the “pressure” of the World Series of Poker is going to make him “nervous”. In fact, we’re not sure he knows the meaning of the words “pressure” or “nervous” – in English or Norwegian. Well, maybe if Arsenal is down by one goal with five minutes remaining, but we expect him to be one cool customer at the table.
