Scott Seiver Sweeps Table at NAPT Venetian High Roller Shootout
February 24th, 2010
Scott Seiver is used to having mountains of chips before him.
Ever have one of those days where everything goes right? Tuesday was one of those days for poker pro Scott Seiver.
Seiver drew what was arguably one of the toughest tables in a field full of tough tables at the $25,000 NAPT High Roller Shootout. Finding himself up against a lineup of Sorel Mizzi,Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Brian Rast, Chau Giang, Antonio Esfandiari, and Barry Greenstein, he managed to set them up and knock every last one of them down. In less than five levels he had claimed all the bounties at his table by demonstrating the power of a little run-good. He won a race with Q-Q to take out Greenstein, took care of Esfandiari with a set versus top two pair, and then struck lucky against Giang and Rast when his A-T caught an ace to top both of their pocket pairs and claim a double knockout. Another race against Grospellier and a suckout with a dominated ace againt Mizzi in heads-up play were the final steps that led Seiver to the final table.
This isn’t the first time Scott Seiver has enjoyed great success on a big stage. Before collecting $30,000 in bounties for steamrolling his NAPT High Roller Shootout first round table he had nearly $1.27 million in live poker tournament earnings, not to mention a gold bracelet from the 2008 WSOP. Oddly enough he also went wire-to-wire in that event. So, word of advice if you ever find yourself at a table with him: duck and cover!
Also in the business of crushing dreams in today’s first round were Hoyt Corkins, who knocked out everyone at his table but Phil Hellmuth, and Faraz Jaka, who won his first round table by claiming four of the six available bounties. Interestingly enough Jaka’s table included Vanessa Rousso, Jennifer Tilly and Annie Duke, who comprised 100% of the tournament’s three female players. Joining Seiver, Corkins and Jaka at the final table will be Joe Cassidy, Hoyt Corkins, Ashton Griffin, Brett Richey and 2008 WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate. Action gets underway later today at the Venetian in Las Vegas.
