Phil Ivey Tops All-Time Money List
January 26th, 2010
The last few months have been a bit of a roller-coaster for poker pro Phil Ivey. In November, his 7th place finish at the 2009 WSOP main event earned him a $1.4 million paycheck. In December, Ivey and his wife Luciaette filed for divorce. And then this week, he finished as runner-up in the $100,000 buy-in event at the Aussie Millions tournament series. That finish earned him $600,000 Australian dollars, which is nothing to sneeze at. But perhaps more significantly, those winnings officially put Ivey on top of the all-time money list.
As of right now, Phil Ivey has won more money in poker tournaments than any other player in history. Prior to this latest win, that honor was held by Daniel Negreanu. The Canadian pro Negreanu only held that position for a couple months, after taking over top spot with a runner-up finish at the World Series of Poker Europe main event.
So how much do you have to win to be the top tournament earner in the world? Phil Ivey has won more than $12 million in tournament action. The crazy thing is that he’s undoubtedly made way more playing cash games.
Here’s a list of the top 5 players and their all-time tournament winnings:
Phil Ivey $12,813,990
Daniel Negreanu $12,432,367
Jamie Gold $12,201,061
Phil Helmuth Jr. $10,991,871
Scotty Nguyen $10,955,557
