Peter Eastgate in Top 10 at EPT Copenhagen

by February 19th, 2010

Danes lead the way at EPT Copenhagen.

The host nation of Denmark is pushing for a strong showing with just 76 players remaining in one of Europe’s more prestigious poker tournaments, as four of the top ten spots at the start of Day 3 at EPT Copenhagen belong to Danes. Stig Rossen leads the way in third place, but the highest profile of all the home-turf players in the event belongs to former WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate, who sits in ninth position with 302,000 chips as Day 3 gets started.

Eastgate has twice come close to an EPT title since winning his career-defining event in 2008. At last year’s EPT London main event he came agonizingly close to his second career tournament victory, falling short in second place against American Aaron Gustavson but still claiming a nice payday of $844,285. Then Eastgate made another deep run last month at EPT Deauville in France before finishing in eighth place for $99,094.

Whether Eastgate will be able to top those performances at EPT Copenhagen remains to be seen, but the young champion has already proven that he’s one big winner who has to be taken seriously: he has cashed for more than $1 million in EPT main events and took down a preliminary event win at the 2009 PCA. Here’s who his big competition will be today in Copenhagen:

  1. Csaba Toth – 561,900
  2. Fabian Gentile – 413,300
  3. Stig Rossen – 411,200
  4. Kristoffer Thorsson – 380,400
  5. Roberto Romanello – 349,200
  6. Ricky Fohrenbach – 337,600
  7. Henrik Junker – 307,200
  8. Thomas Froslev – 306,400
  9. Peter Eastgate – 302,000
  10. Berjar Rustom – 290,700
