Could You Watch 30 Chick Flicks in 30 Days?

Who wants to get married?

For many men (and more than a few women), the thought of sitting around watching a strident Sarah Jessica Parker try to get married for two hours would give them nightmares. But for blogger Nick Waters, watching the Sex and the City movie was just 1/30th of his month-long movie torture. But before you feel too bad for the guy, you need to realize something. Watching 30 chick flicks in 30 days, and then writing little movie reports about each one, was his own dumb idea.

So was the whole thing designed just to make the rest of us men look bad when we refuse to add anything with Meryl Streep in it to our Netflix queue? Yeah, kinda. It seems Nick and his wife decided he should watch 30 chick flicks in an effort to learn about love and communication and all those good things. Because what better way is there to learn about how relationships really work than watching Couple’s Retreat, starring Vince Vaughn?

And just to make sure he really screwed things up for all other men, Waters went out and got some media attention for his chick flicks project. And then he scheduled the whole thing to end today, on Valentine’s Day, just to make the rest of us guys look particularly like insensitive schmucks. So if you’re a guy heading to the video store for a little Valentine’s Day viewing later tonight, you might as well accept you’re going to be watching something that features wedding dresses, true love and, most likely, Jane Austen.
